Working with a naturopath
Online naturopath in New Zealand: is it as good as seeing someone in person?
Fair question, and I'll answer it honestly rather than as a sales pitch: for some things, in person is better. For most of what women come to me with — fatigue, hormones, sleep, burnout, gut niggles — online works just as well, and people actually follow through with it.
What you don't lose
Naturopathy is built on your story and your patterns. Ninety percent of what I need comes from a detailed health history, your symptom timeline and your blood tests — all of which travel perfectly well online. If anything, people are more thorough writing it down than they are sitting nervously in a chair.
What you do lose
Hands-on assessment, tongue and nail observation in real light, and the particular warmth of being in a room with someone. Those matter, which is why monthly video check-ins exist as an option — you still get a face and a conversation, just without the drive.
Where online quietly wins
- No waiting three weeks for an appointment slot
- Works for shift workers, rural NZ, parents with small kids, and anyone in a small town with no local practitioner
- Your plan is written down — you're not trying to remember it in the car park
- Considerably cheaper, because you're not paying for a clinic room
What it costs in NZ
In-person first consults around the country run roughly $120 to $250, plus follow-ups. A personalised wellness plan from The Online Naturopath is NZ$129 one-off, with optional monthly support at $49 if you want someone in your corner while you work through it.
Who it suits
People who are tired of being told their bloods are normal. People who want to know exactly what to eat, take and change, in what order. People who'd rather start tonight than wait for an appointment. If you need hands-on care or acute medical assessment, see a practitioner in person or your GP first — and I'll tell you if that's what I think you need.
