Working with a naturopath

Looking for a naturopath in Christchurch? Here's how it works (and the online option)

By Megan — Naturopath & RN··6 min read

I'm based in Canterbury, and most people who find me are searching some version of "naturopath Christchurch" or "naturopath near me" at 11pm, after another day of being tired, bloated, wired or just not themselves. So here's a plain-English guide to what you're actually choosing between.

What a naturopath in Christchurch typically costs

Across Christchurch, a first naturopathic consult usually sits between $120 and $250, with follow-ups around $80 to $150. Herbs and supplements are on top of that, and most clinics will want you back every four to six weeks. It adds up quickly, which is the main reason people put it off.

What happens in a first appointment

The bulk of it is listening. A good naturopath maps your whole picture — energy through the day, sleep, digestion, cycle, stress, food, history, and any recent blood tests. You should leave with a plan, not just a bag of supplements.

  • Nutrition shaped around your actual week, not a perfect one
  • Herbs, supplements or cell salts only where they earn their place
  • Sleep and nervous system support
  • Blood test markers worth asking your GP about

In-clinic or online?

If you love sitting across from someone, book a local clinic — it's a lovely way to work. But a lot of Cantabrians are juggling shift work, kids and a drive across town, and appointments keep getting pushed. That's the gap online support fills.

The Online Naturopath is my answer to it: you fill out a detailed health questionnaire in your own time, I go through it (and your labs, if you have them), and you get a personalised wellness plan — nutrition, supplements and herbs with where to buy them in NZ, flower essences, sleep and nervous-system support, a four-week roadmap and the questions worth taking to your GP. No appointment needed, NZ$129.

Local, not anonymous

I'm a Naturopath and Registered Nurse living in Canterbury. I know the NZ supplement brands worth buying, what our GPs will and won't test, and how a Christchurch winter lands on an already-tired nervous system. You're not sending your health story into a void overseas.

When to see your GP first

Unexplained weight loss, fever, chest pain, severe or worsening symptoms, or sudden cognitive change — GP first, always. Naturopathy works alongside medical care, never instead of it.
